Adventures in Athens

Avast!  Searching for pirate treasure can be hard work!  Today we took the city of Athens by surprise.

It were an early morning indeed--earlier than the time me pirate mates Timothy and Theodore get up most days!

Pirate Daddy told me we'd be settin' sail for Athens, but the ship we took was nothin' like any ship I'd ever sailed.

"Whar be the water?" I asked.  Pirate Daddy only laughed and said,"Batten down your hatches.  Today we ride the rails!"

So, I boarded this strange vessel with the rest of Pirate Daddy's crew and, were I to be honest with you, I'd have to say it were a wee bit more gentle on me old worn body than me old cot in me ship's cabin.  The seats were soft and were I nearly fell asleep on the ride.

Pirate Daddy told me to hold this paper, but she looked like no map I'd ever seen.  "Why be we needin' this strange map anyway if this vessel drives itself?"  asked I.  Pirate Daddy only laughed and said.  "Shortbeard, me old mate--that thar be a ticket yer a holdin'.  Best keep her close, for they make anyone without one walk the plank."  Well that's what I did fer the whole trip!

Now when this strange ship landed, I ran to the highest point I could find, but what I saw before me eyes was a sight what never I held before on the seven seas!

Whoever were here once, weren't here any more!  But they left behind all manner of strange buildings.

They even left behind messages, but this old sea dog knows not what they say!

I called to Pirate Daddy's crew, "Beware, this reminds me of the time we were attacked by a crew of deathless skeletons!  Be on yer guard!"

Pirate Daddy gave a hearty laugh and told me not to worry.  "Yer too careful Pirate Shortbeard!  Ya need some shore leave.  Have some fun, for we set sail soon for home!"

I had to admit, it were a fun place.  I even tried to be a pirate statue at a museum!

Aye, but when it were all said and done, all the treasure they had in Athens were locked up and guarded by many men.  "Let's take them by storm!" I yelled but were I to tell you the truth, Pirate Daddy's crew and I were too tired to lift a sword.

So we boarded our vessel for the ride home.
